Board of Education Adopts 2012-2013 School Budget

The East Greenbush Central School Board of Education adopted a budget for the 2012-2013 school year at its April 4th meeting. The budget totals $85,121,842 and represents a 0.46 percent increase in spending over the current year’s budget. The 2012-2013 budget carries a 2.39 percent tax levy increase, which is below the state tax levy threshold of 2.58 percent.

The adopted budget sustains the current educational programming and preserves educational opportunities for district students. The budget includes the elimination of five full-time equivalent (FTE) support staff positions; four FTE teaching positions were eliminated, primarily through retirements that will not be replaced.

You can learn more about the budget at a public hearing scheduled for Wednesday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Goff Middle School Cafeteria. Because the proposed budget falls under the state tax levy threshold, a simple majority is needed for passage.

The Budget Vote and Board of Education Election will be held May 15; polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Bell Top Elementary School, Donald P. Sutherland Elementary School, Green Meadow Elementary School, and Goff Middle School. For information on voting and voter registration click here.
