It seems fairly obvious that the County Republicans screwed this up to the point that it is not beneficial toEeast Greenbush to hook up to the bypass. I commend and agree with the Board that we should upgrade and repair our own system and walk away from the County republicans. I'm not into paying the counties dime to make them look good if its not in fact beneficial to East Greenbush either in the short term or the long run!

I choose to not be so cynical/critical of Town representatives. It seems as though a deal was in place and was torpedoed by County Republican influence. The majority was looking for something to be a deal-breaker. The people need to understand that there is an agreement between the majority, business interests and town employees to keep the status quo. What would connected business interests to if the majority were not in power? Langley's a friend of everybody he's known all his life. He's not looking to be a leader for all the people. Not at all arrogant, Game On. The Board members are EMPLOYED by the taxpayers and given powers within the Law to act as representatives of the taxpayers. The employment and the representative status do not convey powers of insight and clairvoyance beyond the capacity of the taxpayers. And the taxpayers have every right to question and ask for clarification. The Board puts its pants on one leg at a time like the rest of us.
I'd much rather have the Town control the Town sewage system rather than the RCSWA.

#1 - it IS a business decision - Gadflies are making it political! #2 - the waste water treatement is/has been fully explored - what you fail to see is that its not going your way BECAUSE of tax issues - present and future tax issues- revenue issues, immediate cash flow expenditures that EGB would incur that would guarantee raise your tax bill. Interpretation of all material and opinions available is that EGB is far better off without Rensselaer County. Rensselaer County only wants our money so that they can come into NYS Health Dept. It seems to me that East Greenbush wants to be an island in the sea of waste. This is a time of fiscal restraint, cooperation and sharing of resources. Doesn't it seem backward for East Greenbush to go it alone when it can be part of a much larger effort? If East Greenbush builds its own plant -- you people who are hooked up to the sewer system will see your water bill go through the roof, I promise you that. DeleteIt seems to me that East Greenbush wants to be an island in the sea of waste. This is a time of fiscal restraint, cooperation and sharing of resources. Doesn't it seem backward for East Greenbush to go it alone when it can be part of a much larger effort? If East Greenbush builds its own plant -- you people who are hooked up to the sewer system will see your water bill go through the roof, I promise you that. Folks, the Board, and I mean every one of the members, are only concerned about keeping control for the benefit of their friends (on both sides) who benefit in construction deals, etc. They are not interested in the taxpayers.

ReplyDeleteWhen it was decided by the Town Board that they would NOT be proceeding further with any BYPASS option, it was explained what the reasoning was and what some of us knew was the underlying causes for such a decision. Those reasons are not foilable, but were given openly and honestly here on the TALKS blog.
The simple fact that Johnson nor Jenkins can fathom that their version was not going to happen has obviously sent them and their cadre of minions out into the stratosphere.
You can stop the quibbling and attempts at open and honest dialog.
People here responded without quipping and senseless name calling to Johnson and he responded angrily demanding people see his point of view and making "promises" that our water bills will go thru the ceiling and that the Board is/has been looking for a deal breaker - etc.... You now complain because people react to Johnsons bullying techniques in your feeble attempt to shift blame.
