EAST GREENBUSH — Hannah Smith, a 16-year-old reported missing on New Year's Day, has been found, police said late Saturday.

The Columbia High School junior apparently ran away from home, according to her parents, Loriann and Stephen Smith, who began an intensive search for their daughter.

Scanner chatter around 11 p.m. indicated Hannah was a passenger in a vehicle spotted on the Thruway near Kingston, but the East Greenbush police would not confirm that, or if anyone was arrested in connection with Hannah's disappearance.

According to police, the teen is safe.

Hannah was last seen at about 12:45 a.m. Jan. 1 when her father kissed her goodnight after a New Year's Eve party. She left the family home between 1 and 8 a.m., taking her cellphone, iPod and laptop computer. Fox23 News reported Saturday evening that Hannah communicated with her father through Facebook.

"The first thing she typed back to me was, 'I love you daddy,'" Stephen Smith said. "Then I asked if she was OK, and she said she was fine and not to worry about her."

The Smith family has been worried throughout the ordeal that Hannah might need medical attention. She suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2009 when the car in which she was riding was hit by a drunken driver.
