    1. The Langster has no plans, and he and DeFruscio have blocked those expressed by Mary Ann Matters and Deb DiMartino during the campaign. DeFruscio wants to be Maney for a while. I doubt for long. Langley doesn't have the capacity to lead. Just look at his closest "advisers."

    2. Excellent point. Does that mean Deb and Maryann are content to sit back and let Def and the Langster ruin everything? Or ....is there hope for those two yet ?
If we'd only voted in Cheryl, we wouldn't be in this mess !

    3. I agree to a point. Would a victory by Cheryl have turned Mangold and Malone into thinking that governmental reform was a good thing? Don't think so. They needed to be in the minority for a while. Tonight's Ethics Board appointment of Ed Gilbert as Chair will go a long way to discredit Langley/DeFruscio. DeFruscio is on an ego trip and wants to "run things." And "pride goeth before a fall."

  3. The forcing thru of a political failure such as Ed Gilbert as chairman of what is arguably something important to the voters, shows how important it is for Def. and Langley to bully their way thru Town Hall and basically shut off the peoples right to complain.
Time to remove Langley and send Def. packing and allow the Town Hall to heal from all the damage of the past 90+ days.

    1. Demands did stink but the thing I will never overlook is the public disrespect that Gilbert showed Ginny O'Brien on two different occasions. Agree with Mrs. O'Brien or not, but she deserves respect after her many years of service to the Town.

      Delete
    2. If the soon to be new Majority had a problem with Ms. O'Brien sitting on the Town Board during the process of her move out of Town, they should have addressed the matter in a professional manner, rather than having Gilbert mouth off at a Board meeting.

They should have consulted competent legal counsel to determine the definition of an "elector" in the context of NYS Town Law and then determined whether Ms. O'Brien's actual situation fit the facts.

I don't think they're smart enough to ask those kinds of questions or develop appropriate strategies.

    3. The disrespect that Defruscio/Mulvey/Tirino ALL showed during Board meetings with their little snide comments and outbursts.
And this Town elected people to give these three stooges a say in the day to day operations of East Greenbush ! What a total shame.

  6. East Greenbush Deputy Supervisor Ed Gilbert is listed as the Vice Chairperson of the Rensselaer County Conservative Party. He is also a member of the Town Ethics Board, appointed by his direct boss, Supervisor Langley. Last night, the very same Langley/SWF appointed Town Ethics Board elected Ed Gilbert to serve as its Chairperson.
Didn't anyone bother to read the Town of East Greenbush Code of Ethics?
What an embarrassment for the Town of East Greenbush and what a terrible situation for those hard working employees of the Town who are required to file financial disclosure forms with the Langley/Gilbert Ethics Board by April 15th.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Why should ANY town employee comply with an illegally appointed Ethics Board ? What or how will they enforce it ? What are the ramifications for those employees who chose to NOT provide the info.?

    ReplyDelete
  8. It is incredible to me that anyone, including Ed Gilbert, thinks it's okay for him to serve on the Ethics Board. Two of the sitting TB members were elected to serve as they see fit. They cannot rely on the Ethics Board for advice or reliable opinion if the EB is Chaired by their most recent political opponent. When Ed Gilbert decided to run for office in opposition to the candidacy of Sue Mangold and Phil Malone he pretty much lost all opportunity to be their trusted statesman and advisor. If 2/5 of the TB can't depend on the EB then the EB is unreliable for all.

Ed Gilbert has been involved as a candidate in direct opposition to two people he now wants to serve as an advisor to. These folks faced him in their most recent election.

  9. The Code of Ethics says that copies of the Code must be posted in all town offices and all employees must receive training to understand its provisions. I wouldn't comply with the financial disclosure provision until that happens. If they push for financial disclosure before everyone is trained it says to me they're more interested in targeting a single member of the town board than actually implementing a fair and impartial mechanism to monitor and eliminate conflicts of interest. Boards of Ethics can be a safe haven for whistleblowers or a witch hunt to discredit political opponents, but they can't be both. Appointing the supervisor's political hatchet man to the board gives a pretty fair glimpse where this one's headed.

Dear Jack, I couldn't agree more. Town employees should not be required to disclose until they AND the legitimately serving members of the Ethics Board receive the required training. The selection of the Deputy Supervisor as the Ethics Board Chair by the members of the Ethics Board manifestly demonstrates the clear need for such training.

  10. Ed Gilbert acts like a guy who is running for office. His political aspirations will interfere with him gaining any credibility as an Ethics Board member. If I am wrong and he is not running, he should immediately make that pledge to the public. There is no way anyone can consider him fair and unbiased if he is also considered a candidate in the next election.

  14. I just finished reading the latest (April 3rd) report from Supervisor Langley's desk on the Town website. In it, the desk writes that a new breakfast and lunch restaurant has already opened and that a burger and hot dog stand will be opening in late April.
That's good news for EG residents looking to expand their culinary choices, but bad news for EG residents hoping to meet with Supervisor Langley after lunch during normal business hours at Town Hall.
Thanks to a recent report by NewsChannel 13's Bill Lambdin, we do know that Supervisor Langley's desk remains at Town Hall throughout the work day even though its elected occupant does not.

    4. @ 11:03 PM, You are correct, the tax increase wasn't imposed by Malone, Mangold, DiMartino and Mary Matters. It was voted for by Keith Langley and then Councilperson Rick Matters. Rick Matters is no longer on the Town Board by order of a Federal Judge. The voters will have the chance to remove Supervisor Langley from the Town Board in November, 2015.

And he did it after a meeting which never happened pursuant to a resolution which was never passed. And the PB secretary is saying that Dwight has to FOIL for the minutes of the meeting that never happened. Now there's a corruption nugget for you.

  19. Wow that's some serious revisionist history. Langley's budget had a zero tax increase the budget that MOM put forward had a tax increase and is the one the tax payers are supporting. Langley gave MOM one more chance to approve his budget before the deadline and they didn't like the language ( the truth ) and voted it down. They "claimed" that if Langley removed the historically accurate language they would approve it but why should anyone believe or trust them. And why did an accurate portrayal have to be removed? That's how it happened I wonder if you all will have the integrity to publish the truth for once.

    1. Let me get this straight. If Langley removed some historical language we wouldn't have had a tax increase this year? Seems like a no brainer. Why wouldn't Langley remove the language? This tax increase fiasco makes Langley look really stupid.

  20. Pardon Me But:

So what you're saying is that Langley and Matters' refusal to take out a superfluous phrase was reason enough to give us all a tax increase???? All that phrase did was assign blame, a classless political inclusion in a resolution to begin with. How did trust figure in? The vote was taken 30 seconds after Sue Mangold made the offer. She was ready to vote for the Langley budget. Let's put the matter straight: Langley and Matters were responsible for a tax increase so that the democrats wouldn't get credit for ending their term with a no tax increase budget. For political purposes they want to say they were the first ones to do it. Political revenge and Langley's re-election campaign are the reasons we have a tax increase, plain and simple. That's not vision or leadership, it's spite and politics as usual. SWF means the 'Same Wasted Futility.' Should the chairman of the Board of Ethics be mounting a political defense of one party? Sounds pretty partisan to me. Talk about integrity.

  21. Pardon me,
The so called "historically accurate language" you cite should have been removed under commonly established parliamentary procedure, because it wasn't germane to the overall Budget Resolution.
On the "trust" issue. I trust Mangold and Malone far more than Keith Langley on this. Mangold and Malone took the time to publicly explain the reasons for their votes and they also offered a no tax increase compromise. Sadly, for the taxpayers of East Greenbush, Keith Langley wasn't interested in discussing a reasonable compromise. Keith Langley just wanted a tax increase in place prior to his organizational meeting in January. Keith Langley didn't, and still won't, explain why he was the deciding vote in favor of the Langley Tax Increase of 2014. Let's remove Keith Langley in November, 2015 and make sure he isn't given "one more chance" to again raise our taxes without any explanation whatsoever.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Dear PM But @10:45 - If Langley can't figure out what to vote for here is a little tool he can use - which of these actions will be best for the people. In this case, no tax increase would have been better than the silly, one-up-manship point that he attempted to make.
They should have been trusted because the votes were back to back!!! the compromise would have been achieved 20 seconds later for all to see!!!!
The language should have been removed because in adult negotiations each party gives in a little. This was a small concession...we could have no tax increase. Shameful, Mr. Langley, shameful.

    ReplyDelete
  23. You're kidding me right? Langley and Matters put forth a resolution but Malone and Mangold wouldn't pass it unless language was removed. Because Matters and Langley wouldn't agree the resolution gets voted down by... You guessed it MALONE AND MANGOLD! now everyone is upset that Langley wouldn't agree to the change but no one seems to care that Malone and Mangold were the ones to vote it down because of a sentence they didn't like. The fact is the budget we have is the one that MOM passed and that Malone and mangold when given the opportunity refused to fix. It's at their door plain and simple.

Much like you, the sentence was full of political BS. Had no place being in a resolution.

On the other hand, maybe the resolution awarding Eileen Grant $65,000 should have said something like

Due to Supervisor Langley's stupidity and arrogance, the taxpayers of the Town of East Greenbush have to pony up $65,000.00 due to claims brought by Eileen Grant, even though Supervisor Langley accepts absolutely no responsibility for his actions

      Delete
    4. If Langley truly wanted the tax cut he said he did, he could have easily taken the language out. He probably isn'tt smart enough to know how to do it and he was afraid to ask anyone else how because it would show his ignorance in front of everyone.

    5. Dear 8:50 am,

You make an excellent point about the Eileen Grant resolution.

Once again Sue Mangold offered a very reasonable amendment to require all town employees involved in making personnel decisions to be trained on how to make those decisions lawfully.

One would think Langley, as the town's chief financial officer, would have voted for this amendment in order to prevent the town from having to make future taxpayer paid settlements.

Instead, Langley voted against this reasonable amendment, probably because he's too stupid and arrogant to pass any required training.

There is no rules or law being broken by him. He is a "former" town employee , which means he has no binding anything to this farce of an ethics board. So basically, Ed Gilberry can go jump off a bridge, Benko is entitled to private employment - period !

  32. The issue is more complicated than these posts suggest. To say that Rich Benko is entitled to private employment period is to misunderstand how government jobs work. If Rick is working on the Thompson Hill project - and I don't know that he is - one of two provisions of the Code of Ethics apply depending on whether he did any work on that project before he left town service. If he worked on that project as chair of the planning board or town engineer he is banned by the Code of Ethics from working on that project for all time. If he didn't work on it he only has to wait 60 days before it's okay for him to work there.

But the issue is still more complicated. Since Rich doesn't work for the town any longer he can ignore its Code of Ethics and there's nothing the town can do about it. It's up to the units of town government, be it the planning board, town board or anyone else, to refuse to see or talk to him about the project or THEY are in violation of the Code. But without clear and careful training no one's going to know any of this.

Also, as a point of information these provisions were written and passed by the democrats. No one has been harder on Ed Gilbert or Keith Langley on this subject than me but this is not a situation of their doing unless they are negotiating directly with Rich on this project. But as I said, I don't know if Rich is even working there. In my experience he has always acted in an ethical and professional manner and I wouldn't expect anything different now.

    Replies
    1. Dear Mr. Conway, Due to Keith Langley's "silent" running policy, the non connected taxpayers know little about this project. I agree with you about Rich Benko.
The major issue for me is that I don't believe Ed Gilbert or Keith Langley understand the major provisions of the Code of Ethics. If they did, Mr Langley would not have been able to appoint his Deputy Supervisor and Vice Chair of the Rensselaer County Conservative Committee to the Ethics Board and Mr. Gilbert would not have been able to accept this unlawful appointment.

He's out to exact revenge at ALL costs to the town work force, hence his chair of the Ethics Committee. His decisions will amount to nothing but political vengeance. This too will cost the Town thousands in lawsuits.
You were all warned prior to November 2013- most of you ignored the warning. Defruscio thanks each of you !
21 months won't go by fast enough for most of us.

  46. Luv it. Donnie and Dwight never do anything wrong it's always someone else. Like his elderly neighbor, the supervisors, the board the lawyers, the planning board , the zoning board, the Miracle league, the super market. Amen and good grief

  47. Keith Langley thinks it's his town and the rest of us should just pay taxes in it. "Thanks" for the tax increase Keith. A lot of us are planning to "thank" you in person on election day November 3, 2015.

  48. So, exactly what political/managerial/leadership experience did Langley, MAM or Dimartino have prior to election? Zip-notta-NONE !
And they look to E.Christopher Defruscioo and Ed Gilbert for guidance and leadership?! There's the problem !
We have no experience worthy of public office in Town Hall !
Unless I miss my guess, Langley has proven beyond reasonable doubt that he is completely clueless at his job. Gilbert needed to be placed as Deputy Clueless Commander and Ethics Chair because there was no chance in hell he could win an election in town.
MAM and Dimartino are simply faces/pawns for Defruscio to use like marionettes in his sonnet !
    SWF ? What a complete joke !
Wait til the good weather rreally sets in ad then we'll see how short-handed DPW really is....listen for the b*tching and complaining then. No summer help and reduced staffing are sure to make for a long summer in EG.

    1. I hate Langley #2April 14, 2014 9:45 AM

Another reason your going to see more and more people putting their houses on the market. East Greenbush offers nothing now. No road work done; very few DPW workers; the bottom line is Supe wants to make himself look good while saving all this money. All well in good - but let the TOWN look like shit because of it. Your one smart COOKIE, Langster! N O T. Look who your taking your orders from. Think like a man, do your own thing. Hire more help and get these GD roads fixed, will ya - for one. As far as the businesses on Columbia Tpk go, that's a lost cause. Rt. 4 is the place to be to shop. Why come to the desolate part of Town when you don't have to. Shape up Langley, you've only got a short time!

  49. Plain and simple; you are either against Defruscio/Langley and the rest of SWF or your against East Greenbush ! There is NO coexisting with those who wish to destroy us all from within !

  50. Most people would need assistance in the new position of TB member regardless of past training or experience. The problem here is they show no interest learning the job. Was there any reason given for SWF blowing off the Association of Towns where they could have learned something? There were 2 sessions, 1 for newly elected members and 1 large conference for all officials.

:Judges, elected officials and attorneys from around the state attend, learn, and conntribute. Do Mary Ann and Deb think they are to 'smart" to associate with their colleagues? If so, they are wrong. Following Langley's shallow isolationist policies is not serving them well. It shows.
