"The top aide to the Rensselaer County Legislature's Republican majority, who is a key party operative, was arrested Friday after a physical altercation with his 17-year-old son, town police said Monday.
Richard Crist, 46, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child and harassment, a violation, police said.
The incident occurred Friday in the Castleton Elementary School parking lot, police said. Officers declined to provide specific details, claiming the matter was a domestic incident that was referred to Rensselaer County Child Protective Services.
Crist declined comment.
Crist was issued an appearance ticket after a judge could not be found for arraignment Friday, police said.
Crist earns $95,308 as the County Legislature's legislative liaison. He also is Schodack town Republican chairman and has worked as a consultant on various local, state and congressional campaigns.

Mary Ann Matters distinguished herself last night at the Board meeting. The irony of Ed Gilbert slamming her for being the town board liaison to the Ethics Board and only attending one meeting is that Mary Ann invented the position of liaison. By creating that position she gave the Board of Ethics a foothold it had previously lacked. From the day she was elected she went to work on the subject of ethics and last night proved her commitment is durable and real.
I always felt that the appointment of Ed Gilbert to the Board of Ethics was a serious error in judgment and have repeatedly called on him to resign. After last night I don't see how he can continue in that position. The chairman of the Board of Ethics cannot be a divisive figure and the work of the board is more important than the ego or ambition of individual members. There's already been one resignation from the board and another is possibly on the way. It's time to put the town first, Ed.
Supervisor Langley must immediately fire Ed Gilbert from the position of Deputy Supervisor and/or ask for Mr. Gilbert's immediate resignation from the Ethics Board. If Mr. Langley refuses to do either or both, he is asking the voters of East Greenbush to fire him from his own position as Town Supervisor on election day 2015. Not good, Mr. Langley, not good at all.
Thats asking an awful large task from Langley 10:38. He has proven time and time again , how completely inadequate and incompetent he is with matters of great importance. Defruscio / Gilbert / Tirino / are all glaring examples of this mans inability to make decisions for the greater good. When your so ignorant as to continually be seen with any of those three, you really and very simply - DON'T GET IT ! Resign Keith - your really unqualified to hold your position !
Do Not trust MAM. She did that for a very good reason last night. It's because she sees the whole Casino thing blowing up and wants to distance herself from it. The Casino is not going to EG and she knows it, so she is bailing on it to save herself, and in bailing on the Casino, she is bailing on the rest of the board. She is positioning herself for a run at Supervisor Langley in a primary. Mark my words.
If Langley is stupid enough to run again there are many of us planning to vote against him. Langley is so unpopular that even "Screamin" Ed Gilbert would beat him. As far as a primary goes, what political party would even consider nominating Langley. He is a landslide loser in 2015.
Ed, I'm sure when you took the positions as Deputy Supervisor and Head of the Ethics Board, your intentions were good. It must be painfully obvious to you that people have lost faith in your ability to do the aforementioned positions. Whether the perception is fair or not doesn't really matter - it is what it is. Ed.,,,on a personal level I have noticed a distinct change in your behavior. You are more combative and more dismissive of others. You go on the defensive whenever someone disagrees with you or the board.
Ed....maybe you think it's your duty to protect some of the board members, especially the Supervisor and you are simply being a good soldier in your own mind.
Ed...If you remove your personal feelings and look at what has transpired with your behavior of late, you will have to realize that it's not working for you.. Politics is not your cup of tea. Put your energies into something else.
Ed...I know you have a nice family - start enjoying them more. Give them back the happy go lucky father and husband that you used to be.

Who are the current members of the Keith Langley/Ed Gilbert Ethics Board? I couldn't find an updated listing on the Town's Website soI tried calling the Supervisor's Office for an answer, but the person who answered the phone transferred the call to The Sports Grill. They couldn't answer the question either.
Word has it MAM was told by AT&MC to distance herself from her majority due to the arrest of a powerful Republican operative earlier this week. MAM not only hates the Democrats now she has turned on her own people. Not good MAM not good at all.
Lucky for old Rickey boy she didn't feel the same way about him when he was brought up on charges at his state job.
Talk around town is that after Mary Ann Matters was insulted by Ed Gilbert at the Town Board meeting and Keith failed to intervene or attempt to control Ed, Mary Ann and Rick have decided to support Ann Taylor when she challenges Langley in the primary in September.
Ann Taylor would like to send Langley packing and with Mary Ann and Rick's help, it's not only possible, but extremely likely.
Not only didn't Keith Langley fail to intervene. He invited Ed Gilbert back up to the podium for a second opportunity to spew forth some more insulting comments. Both Langley and Gilbert should resign immediately.
I do hope we get a good candidate. like Ann. Unfortunately the election to replace Keith isn't until 2015, unless Keith does the right thing and resigns.
